El mismo día en que se cumplía el séptimo aniversario de la salida del agresor israelí del Líbano, el 25 de mayo, tuvo lugar una emotiva ceremonia en la residencia del Embajador de Cuba en  Beirut: la entrega de la Medalla de la Amistad a la compañera Wafica Mehdi, secretaria-traductora de nuestra sede.

La incondicional entrega y dedicación de Wafica a su trabajo en la Embajada;  el amor y empeño que pone en cada tarea que se le asigna;  la fuerza con que las acomete, hicieron que el compañero Embajador propusiera a nuestro país que se le otorgara a Wafica la Medalla de la Amistad, en reconocimiento a sus valores y amor por el pueblo cubano.

Hace unos días se recibió en la Misión, la Medalla y enseguida nuestro  colectivo comenzó a preparar una sencilla ceremonia  con la que queríamos sorprender agradablemente a Wafica.

Se coordino la ceremonia con su esposo, Ismail Ibrahim, representante del Partido Comunista Libanés en Cuba durante once anos, y  pedimos que la queríamos mantener en secreto para sorprender a Wafi.

Asimismo coordinamos con sus padres, hermano, prima, sus amigos más entrañables y los Presidentes de las Asociaciones de Amistad de Líbano y Palestina con Cuba, Maurice Nahra y  Salah Salah,   con sus respectivas esposas, y de las Ligas de Graduados Libaneses y Palestinos en Cuba, el saliente Dr Kassem Aboud y esposa, y el recién elegido Kamal Kamal y esposa; así como los Dres. Fayiz Bibi y Hassan Al Natour y esposas, para que participaran en la sorpresa.

La cra. Lynda Mattar, Presidenta de la Liga de Mujeres Libanesas y Maria Deddes, miembro de la dirección del Partido Comunista Libanés, también fueron cómplices en la organización del acto, junto con Hadi Begdache, Presidente de la ONG “Lealtad al hombre y la tierra” y Bassam al Kantar, periodista y hermano del prisionero libanés en las cárceles de Israel, Samir al Kantar.

Todo el personal de la Embajada de Cuba en Líbano, incluido nuestro Web master, estaba presente y no creímos que  lograríamos llegar hasta el final en secreto con tantos  compañeros implicados en  lo que tramábamos.

Inventamos un almuerzo del Embajador en la residencia al que Wafi tendría que venir a traducir y, como siempre, aunque se lo dijimos solo tres días antes, no tuvo ningún reparo en regalarnos su día libre, ante una necesidad laboral.

Ella no entendió bien por que no podía venir sola a la residencia y tenía que esperar  que un compañero de la Embajada la fuese a recoger a su casa para  que ella le ayudase a comprar algo que necesitamos pero espero disciplinadamente. Con ello queríamos asegurar que, cuando ella llegase, todos estarían esperándola en una doble fila, al final de la cual se encontraban el Embajador y sus colaboradores más cercanos, los familiares de Wafi, los presidentes de las Asociaciones de Amistad y Ligas de Graduados y las banderas de Cuba y el Líbano.

Wafi entro y no se percato de nada. Silvio Rodríguez cantaba “Con un poco de amor tanto me enriquecí que gastaba y siempre quedaba un  poco de amor…..” secundado por sus amigos que, en improvisado coro, desentonábamos de lo mas contentos y orgullosos de rendir homenaje a esa gran hermana.

Cuando Wafi llego al final de la doble fila, rompieron las notas de los himnos de Cuba y el Líbano y el Embajador Darío de Urra dijo emotivas palabras sobre esa mujer que  tiene un corazón desbordante de amor para el pueblo cubano, para Fidel, para los Cinco.

Cuando el Embajador concluyo, los niños de la Embajada trajeron la Medalla que le fue impuesta por el  jefe de Mision, al tiempo que se leía el decreto del Consejo de Estado comunicando su decisión de otorgar la condecoración a Wafica Mehdi “en reconocimiento a su apoyo incondicional a la Revolución Cubana hacia la cual ha mostrado verdaderos sentimientos solidarios, así como por su abnegación en la defensa de nuestros intereses y su ayuda invaluable al trabajo de nuestra Embajada” .

Fue un día de fiesta en grande: no solo se conmemoraba el aniversario de la liberación total del Líbano del ocupante israelí, sino que, además, unas horas después se elegiría al nuevo Presidente cuyo cargo estaba vacante desde el 23 de noviembre pasado.

Wafi pidió hablar, y también su esposo Ismail Ibrahim, y  luego su hermano, Mohammad Mahdi. Wafi  hablo largo  para recordar su estancia en Cuba, que le sirvió para sembrar la semilla que germino y de la que creció un árbol de raíces fuertes   dentro de su corazón  y en el de toda su familia por Cuba, por Fidel, y cuyas ramas   se expandieron  hacia todas las causas justas del mundo y especialmente, hacia su pequeño y sufrido pueblo que ojala que en el futuro, como Wafi,  recuerde doblemente este 25 de mayo, símbolo de la Resistencia del Pueblo Libanés y ojala que también sea de la renovación  para el surgimiento de un Líbano no confesional.

On May 25,  the same day that marks the seventh anniversary of the departure from Lebanon of Israeli aggressor, the staff of the Cuban Embassy had a very touching  ceremony at the residence of the Ambassador: the offer of the Medal of Friendship to Wafica Mehdi, secretary-translator of our diplomatic mission.

The unrestricted commitment of Wafica to his work at the embassy; love and dedication that puts into every task assigned to her; force with which undertakes, made the embassy to propose to our Ministry  will give to Wafica the  Friendship Medal, in recognition of her values and love for the Cuban people.

A few days ago was received in the Mission, the Medal and then our group began to prepare a simple ceremony with which we wanted to pleasantly surprise Wafica.

 
We coordinated the ceremony with her husband, Ismail Ibrahim, who was representative of the Lebanese Communist Party in Cuba for eleven years, and we asked him  to keep secret .

We also coordinate with her parents, brother, cousin, and her most cherished friends, as well as the presidents of associations of Lebanon and Palestine Friendship with Cuba, Maurice Nahra and Salah Salah, with their respective wives; and the Presidents of the League of Lebanese and Palestinian Graduates in Cuba, his outgoing head, Dr. Kassem Aboud and wife, and the newly elected Kamal Kamal and wife, as well as Drs. Fayiz Bibi and Hassan Al Natour and wives, to participate in the surprise ceremony.

 
Lynda Mattar, president of the League of Lebanese Women,  and Maria Deddes, a member of the leadership of the Lebanese Communist Party, were also complicit in organizing the event, along with Hadi Begdache, President of the NGO "Loyalty to the man and earth" and Bassam al Kantar, journalist and brother of Lebanese prisoner in jail in Israel, Samir al Kantar.

The staff of the Embassy of Cuba in Lebanon, including our Web master, were surprised that we succeeded in keeping all the preparative under  secret even that there were so many friends involving  in the plot.

We invent a lunch at the ambassador's residence and we asked  Wafi to come to translate because the participants does not speaks other languages than Arabic, and, as usual although we said to her just three days before and it was her  day off, she does not hesitate to accept to come to work.

She did not understand well that she can not come alone  to the residence and she should wait  for a companion of the embassy who was to pick up her under the excuse that they should buy something necessary, but finally she accepted to wait for him.  We  wanted to ensure that, when she reached the Ambassador residence , we all will  be waiting in a double line of people, at the end of which were the ambassador and his closest collaborators, relatives of Wafi, the presidents of Associations and Friendship League of Graduates and the flags of Cuba and Lebanon.

Wafi sign in and she did not aware of anything. A CD of Silvio Rodriguez sang "Con un poco de amor, sobrevivo… con un poco de amor tanto me enriqueci que gastaba y siempre quedaba mi poco de amor…” and all of us joint Silvio singing with him, in an impromptu chorus, that we can not get the harmony but we were the most  happy and proud people paying  tribute to our  great sister.

When Wafi arrived at the end of the double line, the notes to the national anthems of Cuba and Lebanon were playing and the Ambassador Dario Urra said emotive words about this woman who has a heart overflowing of love for the Cuban people for Fidel, for the Five.

When the Ambassador conclude, children from the Embassy brought the medal that was imposed by the head of Mission, while also read the decree of the State Council to communicate its decision to award the medal of Friendship to Wafica Mehdi "in recognition of its unconditional support towards the Cuban Revolution, because her true feelings of solidarity towards the Cuban people and for her commitment defending our interests and its invaluable support to the work of our Embassy. "

Wafi asked to speak, and also her husband Ibrahim Ismail, and then his brother, Mohammad Mahdi. Wafi talked long remembering her  stay in Cuba, which served to sow seeds that germinate in a tree that grew strong roots in her heart,  and that of her entire family, to  Cuba, to  Fidel, and its branches are expanded to all the just causes of the world and especially to her small country which  suffered the aggressions of Israel and the civil war and I she hopes that in the future, when she  remember this May 25, it will be also a symbol of the resistance of the Lebanese people and of the  renewal of the emergence of a non-confessional Lebanon.

It was a big holiday: not only commemorating the anniversary of the total liberation of Lebanon from the Israeli occupier, but also because a few hours later were elected the new President whose post was vacant since November 23 last.

El Presidente cubano Raúl Castro Ruz otorgó a la traductora- interprete  de la Embajada de Cuba en el Líbano Wafica Mehdi Ibrahim la «Medalla de la Amistad», por consideración y aprecio a « su apoyo incondicional a la revolución cubana, y por los verdaderos sentimientos de solidaridad, y por su dedicación abnegada en defensa de nuestros intereses, y su ayudar inestimable que siempre " nos ha ofrecido  con relación al escenario político de un país tan complejo como su país " , según refiere el texto del decreto de otorgamiento  de la medalla de la Amistad emitida por el Secretario del Consejo de Estado José Miyyar Barruecos.

Por tal motivo, el embajador de Cuba en el Líbano Darío de Urra Torriente organizó un almuerzo en su Residencia en Hazmieh, en presencia de representantes de las Asociaciones de Amistad Libano-Cubana y palestino -Cubana, y Asociación de graduados libaneses de las universidades cubanas, y representantes de organizaciones  políticas y civiles y femeninas y una multitud de amigos y familiares de la homenajeada.

 
El Embajador De Urra dijo: "Hay muchas vivencias y anécdotas para contar con relación a la sinceridad, la honradez y la dedicación de Wafica en su labor en la embajada, y su siempre afán de ser ejemplo de las costumbres y tradiciones libanesas, satisfaciendo nuestra curiosidad de conocer cada vez más sobre la historia del Líbano".

Y añadió: "durante la guerra de julio del 2006 contra el Líbano, Wafica decidió permanecer con nosotros en la sede de la Embajada a fin de no impedirle a Cuba obtener la información tan necesaria sobre la evolución de la situación libanesa y valiosa para los informes que enviamos a nuestro país…". Y concluyó que su " dedicación y su  solidaridad confirman lo que siempre repetía el comandante Fidel Castro (que un mundo mejor siempre es posible de alcanzar)".

A su vez, Wafica Ibrahim dio las gracias a todos por el amor y la simpatía expresada y demostrada "en este momento tan querido y tan allegado a mi corazón", y señaló que su amor por Cuba proviene de su  " profundo conocimiento del grandioso pueblo cubano". y añadió que " su papel en la guerra de julio del 2006 ha sido parte integrante del  espíritu de resistencia que se me ha inculcado desde mi temprana edad".."Me siento muy feliz y honrada de que coincida mi condecoración con la fecha del Día de la Resistencia y la Liberación de nuestro pueblo se han beneficiado en su resistencia de las experiencias de la resistencia de Cuba y Vietnam y Palestina, pero que la lección mas bella y particular que solo fue proporcionada por la revolución cubana encabezada por Fidel radica en que los pueblos dignos y soberanos pueden obligar a sus enemigos a respetarlos sin importar cuán poderosos que sean esos enemigos, y esta es la lección más importante que yo aprendí de Cuba, y esto quedó evidente en particular con el caso de los cinco héroes cubanos detenidos injusta y arbitrariamente en cárceles de los Estados Unidos" .

Y concluyó diciendo: «gracias por este homenaje y por la medalla, que en definitiva constituye para mi una mayor responsabilidad revolucionaria y un compromiso moral en el empeño por las causas justas de nuestros pueblos".

  كاسترو يمنح اللبنانية وفيقة إبراهيم «وسام الصداقة الكوبية»

منح رئيس الجمهورية الكوبية راؤول كاسترو روز المترجمة في السفارة الكوبية في لبنان وفيقة مهدي إبراهيم «وسام الصداقة»، وذلك تقديراً «لدعمها غير المشروط للثورة الكوبية، ولمشاعر التضامن الحقيقي، ولتفانيها في الدفاع عن مصالحنا، ومساعدتها التي لا تقدر بثمن والتي تقدمها لنا في ما يتعلق بالمشهد السياسي في بلد معقد مثل بلدها»، وذلك بحسب ما جاء في مرسوم منح الوسام الذي أصدره أمين مجلس الدولة خوسيه ميار بارويكو.

وللمناسبة، أقام السفير الكوبي في لبنان داريّو دي أورّا تورينتي حفل غداء تكريمياً في منزله في الحازمية، بحضور ممثلين عن جمعيتي الصداقة الكوبية اللبنانية والكوبية الفلسطينية، ورابطة المتخرجين من الجامعات الكوبية، وممثلين عن هيئات سياسية وأهلية ونسائية وحشد من الأصدقاء وعائلة المكرمة.

وقال تورينتي: «كثيرة هي الحكايات، بل لا متناهية التي أستطيع أن أقصّها عن إخلاص وفيقة وتفانيها في عملها بالسفارة، ودأبها في إعطاء المثل الأعلى عن العادات والتقاليد اللبنانية وشرحها لنا، وإشباع فضولنا في معرفة أدق التفاصيل عن تاريخ لبنان».

وأضاف: «خلال الحرب على لبنان في تموز 2006، قررت وفيقة أن تمكث معنا لكي لا تمنع كوبا من الحصول على المعلومات وعلى التطورات في الوضع اللبناني التي كنا نعتمدها لإرسال تقاريرنا للاستمرار بالتواصل الدبلوماسي». وختم «إن تفانيها وتضامنها يؤكدان ما كان يكرره فيديل قائد شعبنا دائماً (أنه بالإمكان والمقدور عليه الحصول دائماً على عالم أفضل)».

بدورها، شكرت إبراهيم جميع الذي أحاطوها بالحب والعاطفة «في هذه اللحظة العزيزة إلى قلبي»، مشيرة إلى أن حبها لكوبا استمدته من «معرفتها العميقة بالشعب الكوبي الرائع». وأضافت «إن الدور الذي أديته في حرب تموز 2006 هو جزء لا يتجزأ من مسيرة المقاومة التي تربيت عليها. وأنا سعيدة بأن يتزامن هذا التكريم مع عيد المقاومة والتحرير. لقد استفاد شعبنا اللبناني من تجارب المقاومة في كوبا وفيتنام وفلسطين، إلا أن الأمثولة الأجمل التي قدمتها الثورة الكوبية بقيادة فيديل هو أنه بإمكان الشعوب الأبية أن تفرض احترامها على أعدائها مهما كانوا أقوياء، وهذا هو الدرس الأهم الذي تعلمته من كوبا، وبالأخص من الأبطال الكوبيين الخمسة المعتقلين تعسفاً في سجون الولايات المتحدة الأميركية».

وختمت: «أشكر هذا التقدير والوسام، وهو يحمّلني المزيد من المسؤولية والالتزام تجاه قضايا شعوبنا العادلة».
