Havana, Nov 19, 2003 (AIN) A program
of academic activities has kicked Wednesday to pay homage to
the discoverer of the carrier of the yellow fever, Cuban
scientist Carlos J. Finaly, in the context of commemorations
for the 170 anniversary of his birthday.
Activities will coincide
with Latin American Medicine Day and Medical Workers´ Day next
December 3rd and will be celebrated under the slogan "for the
excellence of health", said Deputy Epidemiology Minister
Gonzalo Estévez.
The program includes a
meeting of consultant professors at the Carlos J. Finlay
hospital, December 3-5; while on December 12, active
epidemiologist will be paid honor for their continuous work in
that field since its creation. Meanwhile, a
cultural gala, the declamation of the poem titled a Pray to
Finlay and a visit to the park bearing his name will take
place in Camaguey, hometown of the famous Cuban
doctor.
An inscribed stone will
also be inaugurated at the current Hygiene and Epidemiology
Institute in order to earmark the place where scientists
continued their work.
Also announced was the
launching by the Villa Clara's Multimedia Development Group of
a CD on Finlay´s life and work.
