Twelve days in Cuba - Third day

The next day, appointment with the ministry of the foreign affairs. The director of the Africa section and of Middle East MR. Ramón Pérez Yero and his second MR. Eduardo Castellanos Soto received me. I noted the absence of photos of the Head of state in the official offices that I visited nothing but the National Flag. The reception was very warm as if I was among former knowledge. I seized the occasion to ask my questions and my doubts about the system in course and liberties. The retorts was very detailed on the facts that deny the pretentions spread against Cuba, simply to have chosen to follow an independent way of north American will residing at a distance of 90 miles.

I have received the invitation to visit the gathering of the scientific institutes to see with my own eyes what goes on there. My stay coincides with the inauguration of the school year 2003-2004, occasion where President Castro will give a public intervention on September 8, 2003 they told me: you will see of your own eyes. I had a pre conviction that the people were forced to attend there.

But what I testified was like a marriage, students and teachers shaking in supreme ecstasy the Flag of Cuba, the smile full the face, concerned to show the pride of the advanced accomplishments in the domain of education. Here are some views that I was able to take personally and freely without any intervention.

After the encounter to the ministry of the foreign affairs, I went to attend (by invitation) to a worship of an Afro-Cuban community in one of the neighborhoods of the Capital. It was a pious rite, showing the liberty of worship, accomplished freely without any censure. I noticed that they did not feel any difficulty of my presence among them. The most attracted was the fact that members were not only colored or black as I supposed.
