Twelve days in Cuba - First day

I start by introducing myself.

My history with the web site of the embassy of Cuba to Lebanon began by a simple work. Although I am not Cuban, neither Cuba graduated, nor communist, nor socialist, nor supporter of any other party. Simply I made the knowledge of a friend in Cuba through the Internet. Our friendship has deepened to the point that I carried out studies and researches concerning this American Island. I collected the news from different sources and orientations this what allowed me to constitute this web site, and it seems I was not mistaken.

During the research I met huge contradictions around this small beautiful Caribbean country. I admired its qualities that were the common point of all my sources. And I preserved myself a big number of interrogation points hoping to find responses later.

This way I followed the necessary direction to accomplish the work neglecting principles and personal convictions.

During sessions held from time to time with the personnel of the embassy of Cuba to Lebanon, by friendship that begins to be created, or in order to plan the web site, I had the occasion to put these points to the discussion. Between other the questions of the democracy and dictatorship, the civil liberties in Cuba, the nature of the Cuban system, socialism in Cuba. And all related subjects as: elections, nominations to public functions, teaching, freedom of believe and other.

I obtained extremely precise responses and without objections. Even when I presented doubts I was told: you have only to visit the country and see by yourself.

This is what I decided to do.

And this is what I accomplished in fact.

I landed at 19.00h of August 31 2003, and three hours later I found myself in the "Tropicana", historic bar of international fame. They presented there an astonishing artistic show similar to those presented at the best American and European clubs (without naming), for the fact that all the participants are graduated from the well-known ballet institute of Cuba.

I noticed in first place the total absence of all security forces contrary to what I awaited, under the influence of what I read in the media as accusations against Cuba on the subject of the security implemented by force. Nothing else than the employees accomplishing perfectly their job.
