El pasado 12 de marzo el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de la República de Cuba, entregó a la Sección de Intereses de los Estados Unidos de América en La Habana, y al Departamento de Estado a través de la Sección de Intereses de Cuba en Washington, una nota diplomática en la que se protesta energéticamente por el régimen de incomunicación total en el que se mantiene a los cinco compañeros René González Sehwerert, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, Ramón Labañino Salazar y Fernando González Llort injustamente presos en los Estados Unidos por defender los pueblos norteamericano y cubano de las acciones terroristas de la mafia anti-cubana radicada en el sur de la Florida.

El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores ha conocido a través de la Sección de Intereses Cubano en Washington y de los propios abogados de nuestros Cinco Héroes, que estos han sido traslados hasta los llamados "huecos", sin justificación ni motivo ninguno, y cortada totalmente la comunicación con sus familiares, sus abogados y con nuestra misión diplomática en Washington DC.

Adicionalmente, el Ministerio ha conocido de nuevas restricciones para el acceso consular a nuestros compañeros, entre las cuales se encuentran la limitación a tres horas del horario de visita, la limitación de estas a solo a una persona, el hecho de que habría que solicitarla con más de 15 días de antelación y por demás la absurda solicitud de que se hable inglés durante la visita.

Todas estas acciones y trabas impuestas por el gobierno norteamericano constituyen no solo una violación de los más elementales derechos humanos de nuestros cinco compañeros, sino que son otra muestra de las ilegales manipulaciones políticas que han rodeado este proceso desde sus inicios.

La imposibilidad de que los abogados de nuestros Cinco Héroes tengan acceso a ellos se produce en un momento crucial en el proceso de las apelaciones. Se produce al momento en que la consulta directa con sus defendidos es sumamente necesaria. El 7 de abril es la fecha límite para presentar todos los documentos necesarios para la apelación, lo cual, en estas circunstancias, se hace prácticamente imposible.

La nota entregada a las autoridades norteamericanas demanda el cese inmediato de estas medidas y violaciones, y la restitución plena de los derechos que correspondan a nuestros compañeros, de acuerdo con las regulaciones penales de los Estados Unidos.

En igual sentido, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores exigió a las autoridades norteamericanas el cumplimento de las obligaciones internacionales para que se garantice el acceso consular permanente y sin condicionalmente ninguno a los héroes cubanos.

El hecho que las autoridades norteamericanos hasta el momento no han sido capaces de ofrecer ni siquiera una explicación racional sobre el por qué de estas medidas, no deja a otra alternativa que pensar que el temor por que se imponga la verdad en el proceso de apelación y la enfermiza obsesión de tratar de ganar a nuestros héroes ha llevado a las autoridades norteamericanas a tomar esta medida extremas y desesperadas.

Estas brutales acciones de las autoridades norteamericanas contra nuestros compañeros y las otras que han tenido que sufrir a lo largo de todos esto ilegal y manipulado proceso, tiene como objetivo resquebrajar su voluntad, su tesón y su valentía.

Nuevamente estas acciones se estrellarán contra la estatura moral y los principios que animan a Fernando, René, Gerardo, Ramón y Antonio.

On March 12th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba delivered to the United States Interests Section in Havana and the US State Department via the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, a diplomatic note in which it strongly protested the regimen of non-communication imposed upon the five Cubans René González Sehwerert, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, Ramón Labañino Salazar y Fernando González Llort who are wrongly imprisoned in the United States for defending the people of the United States and Cuba from the terrorist actions of anti-Cuba radical groups located in Southern Florida.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learned through the Cuban Interests Section in Washington and the attorneys of these five brave men, that they have been transferred to what is called the "hole" without any justification or motive and their communication with their families, their lawyers and our diplomatic mission in Washington DC completely cut. 

Additionally, the Ministry has learned of new restrictions to grant access by consular officials to our compatriots, among which are that visits are now limited to three hours by one person who must request the visit 15 days in advance. Furthermore, there is the absurd requirement that English must be spoken during the visit.

All these acts and obstacles imposed by the government of the United States not only constitute a violation of the most basic human rights of our five compatriots, but represent a further example of the illegal and political maneuvers that have surrounded this process from the outset.

The impossibility for the defense attorneys to gain access to these five heroes occurs at a crucial time of the appeals process. This is happening at a time when direct consultation with the defendants is absolutely necessary. April 7th is the date when all documentation relating to the appeal must be presented, which, given the current situation, is practically impossible.

The diplomatic note delivered to the United States authorities demands the immediate halt to these measures and violations, and the full restitution of the rights of our compatriots according to the laws of the United States.

Likewise, the Cuban Foreign Ministry demands that the US authorities fulfill their international obligation to guarantee permanent and unconditional consular access to the five Cubans.

The fact that the US authorities have, to date, been unable to offer a rational explanation for these measures gives us no other alternative than to believe that fear the truth will prevail in the appeals process, and the sick obsession with endeavoring to cheat the Five,  has led the US authorities to take these extreme and desperate measures.

These brutal acts by the US authorities against our compatriots, as well as those they have had to suffer over the duration of this illegal and manipulated process, are designed to attempt to eliminate their will, tenacity and courage.

Once again these actions will collapse when confronted with the moral stature and the principles that drive Fernando, René, Gerardo, Ramón and Antonio.
