 José Martí, First Anti-Capitalist

Havana, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Mexican sociologist Pablo Gonzalez Casanova said the thought of Jose Marti should be understood as a program critical of capitalism.

" Many of us have wondered how to interpret that epoch of political and revolutionary thought by Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, "  he told Prensa Latina Wednesday.

Gonzalez Casanova, former rector of the National University of Mexico, is attending the 2nd Conference on World Equilibrium.

" I think it would have to be interpreted as a sort of program or project to face the terrible unbalances provoked by world ' s capitalism, " he stated.

He said capitalist society only thinks of how to increase riches, utilities and power, while destroying nature, the biosphere, ecosystems, and that there is bigger unbalance between the reduced number of rich people with growing money, and a great number of poor people without the elemental things.

Gonzalez Casanova was decorated in 2003 by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization with the International Jose Marti Award for his defense of the identity of the Latin American indigenous peoples.

On the media war imposed by power elites against governments wanting to implement social policies, Gonzalez assured it is a false campaign turned into a real dictatorship of the mass media.

He assured that capitalism is the most deceitful system ever known in the history of mankind, which since its beginning has touted the disappearance of slavery, when in reality it is much more exploiting.

The conference will conclude Wednesday after three days of sessions, with the participation of 400 delegates from 35 countries.
