Official note from the Ministry of Informatics
and Communications of the Republic of Cuba
IN the framework of the 12th International
Informatics Convention and Exposition 2007,
Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés
Menéndez, Cuba’s minister of informatics and
communications, met with Fabio Leite, assistant
director of the Radiocommunication Bureau of the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and
special envoy of ITU General Secretary Hamadoun
Touré. In their meeting, Valdés and Leite
discussed different aspects of mutual interest,
including expanding the ITU’s cooperation with
Cuba.
In particular, they talked about the illegal
broadcasts that the United States has been
transmitting into Cuba for several decades, with
the objective of destabilizing our country’s
internal order.
Leite was able to verify the truthfulness of
arguments provided by Cuba in its repeated
exposures of this flagrant violation of its
national radio spectrum, and confirmed
complaints made in this regard to the ITU’s
pertinent agencies.
This radio and television aggression infringes
on the principles of international law that
govern relations between states and the
standards and regulations of the ITU, which
clearly establish the conduct to be followed by
member states of that United Nations
organization.
At the next World Radiocommunication Conference,
to be held at the end of this year, this matter
will be taken up by recommendation of the ITU’s
2006 Plenipotentiary Conference, held in
November 2006 in Turkey.
At every possible forum and space, Cuba will
continue to denounce this violation of its
airwaves.
