Havana, April 5 (AIN) The following is
the full text of the message written by Cuban President Fidel Castro
in the book of condolences at the Papal Nuncio Office in the Cuban
capital, on the occasion of the passing of His Holiness John Paul
II.
"May you rest in peace, tireless fighter for the
friendship among nations, enemy of war, and friend of the poor.
Those who wanted to use your prestige and enormous
spiritual authority against the just cause of our people in its
fight against the giant empire, failed in their efforts.
You visited us in hard times and you
were able to perceive the nobleness, the spirit of solidarity and
the moral strength of our people, who welcomed you with special
respect and affection. You could see the kindness and love for the
human being that drove you on your long pilgrimage on Earth.
Before returning to Rome, you said that restrictive
economic measures imposed on Cuba from abroad were unfair and
ethically unacceptable. That earned you the eternal gratitude and
affection of all Cubans, who today pay you a deserved tribute.
Your departure hurts, unforgettable friend, and we
fervently wish that your example lives on."
