Ibrahim Ferrer returns to Europe for
two full tours, and a promotional
visit to launch his new CD in May 2002
Since coming out of retirement to
appear on 1986's multi-million selling
Buena Vista Social Club, Ibrahim has
become an international star in his
own right. His talent and charisma
shone through on both the album and
Wim Wenders' subsequent documentary
film, Buena Vista Social Club and the
success of his debut album reflects
his enormous appeal. |
Recorded at the age of 71,
Buena Vista Social Club™ presents Ibrahim
Ferrer won him a Grammy Award and reached
number two in the German album chart -
held off the top spot only by the Buena
Vista Social Club! The album has sold over
one and a half million copies to date
since its release in 1999. Over the past
few years, Ibrahim has toured the world
(accompanied by Rubén González and Omara
Portuondo) selling out concerts at major
venues all over Europe, the USA, Canada,
Latin America, Japan, Australia and the
Far East. He has established himself as a
global star, with adoring fans worldwide.

Earlier this year,
Ibrahim guested on Damon Albarn's
eclectic Gorillaz album (currently in
the US top twenty), which has added a
younger audience to his following. He
has just finished recording a new
album, produced once again by Ry
Cooder, due for release in March 2002.
His European solo tour features the
outstanding band that has supported
him over the last few years -
including Demetrio Muñiz (Musical
Director,Trombone) Jesús Aguaje Ramos
(Trombone) and Guajiro Mirabal
(Trumpet). |

two outstanding newcomers: pianist
Roberto Fonseca allows Ruben Gonzalez
to take a well earned rest while
'Sagua' Perez takes over bass duties
from Cachaíto Lopez, who is busy
touring with his own band following
the release of his critically
acclaimed debut album on World Circuit
Orlando 'Cachaíto' Lopez, which
heralds a new sound from Havana. |
