Research to find out which regions have the
largest possibilities to produce eolian energy are
carried out in the northern coast of Cuba,
especially in central Villa Clara, eastern Holguin
and western Pinar del Rio and Isle of Youth.
A Television network
reported the use of wind energy to produce
electricity is one of the prioritized goals of the
Cuban development model, replacing fossil
hydrocarbons.
The project is part of
domestic efforts and measures for the rational use
of energy and the fulfillment of the so-called
Energy Revolution implemented in social and
economic sectors.
Under the National Program
for Wind Prospecting, research on conditions of
the Cuban archipelago is evaluated and the
northern areas of Ciego de Avila, Camaguey and
Villa Clara possess good conditions to contribute
to the program.
Cuba created its first
National Aeolian Park in the Isle of Turiguano in
Ciego de Avila in 1999. Over 500 oil tons have
been saved and 250,000 people have received its
benefits ever since.
World nations have fostered
the use of eolian energy, which is a renewable
resource that reduces CO2 emissions to the
atmosphere.
Presently, more than 40
million people in the world are using eolian
energy.
