Grandfather Fidel,
It was very moving for me to receive the books you sent as
gifts, and your feelings for me make me committed to follow
your example. You, the true hero of every battle that has
been waged in our country and a symbol for every honorable
Cuban.
Whenever I and my classmates who are part of the Along
History’s Path project visit places where great events of
our revolutionary triumph took place, I always think of you
and the other men who took up that struggle, and I respect
and admire you.
On this day, as we commemorate the anniversary of the
battle our people began under your guidance for my
liberation and for the welfare of all Cuban children and
young people, I cannot fail to express our gratitude.
For my classmates and I, it is important to have a teacher
who, when I need him, is my friend; a school where we can do
everything we want, where we learn and have fun. At school,
I am learning how to dance, and I sing in a choir, compete
in different sports, go camping, and prepare lessons to
teach in the subjects in which I am the top student. I have
made friends, and won the respect of my classmates, and I am
happy.
For people in my municipality, the Battle of Ideas has made
Cárdenas into a better city; every December 6 centers are
repaired, new places are created for everyone’s benefit,
there are more health services and new schools and cultural
places.
My friend, as you once called me and which I am proud of,
you can always count on us.
Thank you for the other gifts for me and my brothers.
The whole family sends greetings.
A big hug,
Elián González Brotons
